Toledo is Cheez-It National Team of the Week

The Toledo Rockets exploded to a 28-3 halftime lead and maintained dominance over Mississippi State throughout in earning a rare road win over a Southeastern Conference team. For the 41-17 win, its second all-time over an SEC program, Toledo is this week’s Cheez-It National Team of the Week for games the weekend of Sept. 14, as selected by the All-America Committee of the Football Writers Association of America.

Seven repeat honorees highlight 2023 FWAA All-America Team presented by the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic

The 2023 Football Writers Association of America All-America Team, presented in partnership with the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic, is highlighted by seven repeat All-Americans and a record 10 players from the four teams competing in the College Football Playoff at the front of players from 36 different schools. There are 22 schools represented from eight Football Bowl Subdivision conferences on the first team and all 10 conferences plus an Independent are included on the overall 54-man team.

Toledo's Mitchell is Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week

Toledo cornerback Quinyon Mitchell intercepted four NIU passes, returning two of them for touchdowns that led the Rockets (4-2) to a 52-32 road win in DeKalb, Ill. For the dynamic and game-changing takeaways, Mitchell earned the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week honor for games during the weekend of Oct. 8, as selected by the Football Writers Association of America.
